1976 Mercedes 450SL

This green 1976 Mercedes-Benz 450SL was acquired in Sacramento, California, where it had been parked outside for many years. Due to long-term storage and exposure to the elements, the car is now offered as a complete restoration project.

The engine turns freely by hand, but the car has not been started. Fuel lines between the tank and engine bay have rust damage and need to be replaced, one of many points of attention to get the car back running again.

The Mercedes appears largely complete and is a good basis for restoration or parts. It is however missing the option code plate on the radiator support panel.

The body is mostly solid, but rust repair is required to the floor panels and spare wheel well. The hardtop has rust perforation on the upper surface which has caused water ingress into the interior. We have temporarily covered the rust holes with plastic tape, to avoid more water coming into the interior.

The interior is in poor condition with worn upholstery, weathered carpets and a cracked dashboard due to sun exposure. We have not removed the hardtop to check the soft top; assume it needs to be replaced. Current mileage is 146.833. At time of issue of the last owner’s title in 1996, the odometre reading was 134.375.

An interesting project for a Mercedes R107 enthusiast or classic car workshop.
