1961 Triumph TR3A

Late production run Triumph TR3A, partial older amateur restoration.

This Triumph TR3A was acquired in the US state of Iowa, together with a 1958 TR3A. The previous owner had started a body off restoration, but left the car unfinished and partially disassembled.

The chassis frame looks to be all solid, with only surface rust visible. The body tub is relatively solid, but will require new floor panels, lower quarter panels, probably new sills and patch work at lower front fenders.

Unfortunately, the car is missing quite a few parts: speedometre and tachometre, starter and alternator, grille, hinges and handles, bumpers, hood frame, spare wheel compartment lid, spare wheel, propshaft, gearshift lever assembly and various trim pieces. All parts are pictured; if you don’t see it on the photos, consider it missing.

The engine is locked up, as is the standard 4 speed gearbox. Engine and commission numbers are likely to be matching, but the body number is from an earlier TR3A.

A nice restoration project for practical enthusiasts who don’t mind sourcing a few extra used parts.
