1998 Mercedes-Benz SL500

This Mercedes-Benz SL500 was sold new in Maryland, but moved to Florida within its first year — where it spent the rest of its life. The third owner acquired the car in 2002 at around 30.000 miles, keeping it for more than twenty years. According to the VIN report, a few light collisions were reported during that period.

The odometer now shows 126.706 miles. A service sticker mentions a valve job at 115.000 miles, but otherwise the service history is unknown.

The car runs and drives, but needs both cosmetic and mechanical attention. The engine has a rattle at stationary rpm, and oil pressure is low. We did not investigate this any further; it may relate to the timing chain, hydraulic valve lifters, or valve seals. Power output appears normal during a short test drive around the workshop.

The white bodywork shows age-related wear: stone chips, scratches, and scuffs. Some rust is visible underneath the right rear tail light, and the lower front bumper has a repairable crack.

Inside, the blue leather upholstery needs renewal — most notably the seat covers. The hardtop was not removed; assume the soft top requires replacement. The convertible top module functions (the red warning light operates), though the hydraulic cylinders will likely need seal replacement. No booklets, one key and MB first aid kit still present.

A complete and largely rust-free R129 SL500 with attractive colour combination and long-term Florida ownership. Suitable as a running project for a capable enthusiast or specialist.
