1979 Mercedes 230t W123

This Mercedes-Benz 230t was acquired from the second owners, an elder couple who bought it as a used car in the early 1980’s. The car was frequently used until about 2002, when it was put in dry storage.

We carefully brought it back to life, with fresh engine oil, fuel, fuel pump, fuel lines and a filter. The engine now runs again, with excellent oil presence. It is now being offered as a project car, in need of some body work, cosmetic work and further recommissioning.

The body needs attention after 45 years of service; it shows various imperfections on typical weak spots. The front inner fenders need to be replaced, as does the left front fender. The rear wheel arches need partial repair work, the rear hatch is rusty and there is a small area of perforative rust on the right rear door, just behind the window glass. Sill panels have been previously repaired around the jacking points, which was done structurally sound, but cosmetically inferior. Paint is mostly original and shines reasonably well after a light polish.

While the engine runs well, the car is not driveable. Front brakes are stuck and the brake pads have been removed. Tyres are more than 30 years old, as are hoses, belts and other wearable parts. On a careful short drive without using the brakes, the clutch was working and the car shifts through gears easily. Rear air suspension is in working order. According to the previous owners, the car was professionally serviced at scheduled intervals.

A service tag on the indicator lever indicates a regular oil change with APK technical inspection in 2000, pointing to an advised major service update at 250.000 km. Currently, the odometer reading is 247.391 km.

The interior is in original, used condition and would clean up nicely. However, wear is visible on the driver’s seat upholstery. Rubber seals are old and should be checked and replaced if necessary.

The car comes with two sets of keys, a sales brochure, original manuals and an old APK sheet (2002, which was the last inspection). A spare set of headlights and a front bumper are included, as is a 2nd set of keys.

A well-running, honest W123 project car which practical enthusiasts can turn into a beautiful, reliable classic Mercedes.
