Back in 1977, the Triumph Spitfire was already considered a classic. This evergreen little british sports car was ordered new in bright Inca Yellow. Very seventies indeed. More than 40 years later it still puts a smile on people's faces as it roars by. This is one of the last british roadsters of the classic era, and, importantly, one that can be enjoyed on a tight budget.

We imported this car from the dry US state of Arizona, where it probably spent most of its life. It is still in mostly original condition, with one respray in its original colour. The paint job has a nice shine, though it shows various touch ups and smaller blemishes. There is a dent on the lower part of the left hand sill panel. The rear end of this panel shows some traces of body filler. The floors and chassis are very solid, showing only light surface rust on what is still a factory finish.

Inside the Spitfire's cockpit, everything is in clean and very fair original condition. A few things require attention: the car needs new door rubbers and a new convertible top. There is a small crack in the windscreen and the black vinyl door and windscreen trim shows its age. The Triumph comes with a convertible top cover and a black tonneau cover. Also included is a factory metal hardtop, needing cosmetic work and missing one side screen.

Mechanically, the car makes a strong and healthy impression. It starts easily and runs nicely. It performs as it should, transmitting sufficient power to the well-shifting gearbox. Recent work includes 4 new tyres, a new exhaust silencer, new front brake calipers and hoses, a new battery and a Crane electronic ignition kit. Some further attention is needed. The viscous fan clutch on the water pump is getting bad and makes noise from time to time. New rubber dust covers are needed on the suspension. Furthermore, some electrical issues need to be fixed: windscreen wipers, windscreen washer and indicators not working. No antenna and no radio. 16374 mls on the odometre.

This lovely yellow Spitfire will make a great summer driver.
