1965 Ford Mustang hardtop

This 1965 Ford Mustang Coupé was last driven over 20 years ago, from Tennessee to Washington state. There it sat dormant for years, likely after brake failure. Now offered as a project car for restoration, it is waiting to be transformed to its former glory.

Having left the factory in light blue metallic, it was painted cream white decades ago. Underneath the weathered paint, the body has been relatively well preserved. Visible rust damage is limited to the front floor panels, rear wheel arches and battery tray, as well as two small bubbling spots on the doors. The body will require a complete strip-down and bare metal restoration at this point.

Underneath its weathered bonnet lies a 200 cu six-cylinder engine, paired with a manual gearbox. Having been parked with clean oil, the engine still turns freely by hand. The brakes are no longer working and need to be completely rebuilt. As the front right wheel was completely stuck, we took the drum off and removed the brake shoes.

The interior needs to be completely renovated. As the car has no keys, we had to open the trunk lid from the inside. A good locksmith should be able to make new keys for the existing locks. The car comes with a period original radio, spare wheel and tools and a small box with suspension parts. The odometer currently indicates a total of 75213 mls. Mileage and fuel consumption were logged in the summer of 2000, from 73646 till 74060.

This Mustang presents an exciting opportunity for practical enthusiasts: an honest project car at an entry-level price point.
