This 1962 Triumph TR3B is a rare and desirable final-development version of the TR3 series. The car was purchased from its long-term owner in California, who had owned it since 1982.
Unfortunately, the car sustained accident damage in 2025. According to the previous owner, the Triumph was hit on the left front side and then came to rest on its right side. Fortunately, the driver came out unharmed.
The front and right hand side bodywork have visible damage. The radiator is damaged and leaking, and the right front suspension is slightly out of position. The chassis shows a diagonal deviation of approximately 1 cm between left and right reference points. The car should therefore be restored properly, including inspection and correction of the chassis and front suspension alignment.
Importantly, the car has very little rust damage, which makes it a much better restoration basis than many heavily corroded TR projects. The bodywork shows old paint, dents, scratches and accident-related damage. The interior is present and has an attractive red colour combination, but should also be considered part of the restoration project.
This TR3B was well maintained by the previous owner and was used regularly up to and including 2025. It is therefore not a neglected or long-abandoned barn find. The engine runs and the car can be driven for a short distance.
The Triumph is believed to be a matching numbers example. A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate has been applied for and is currently pending. It comes with a California title and Dutch EU import document.
This TR3B is best suited for someone looking for a rare and honest restoration project. It is not a quick repair and recommissioning job, but a solid and worthwhile basis for a full restoration.
