Early left-hand drive MG Midget Mk1, imported from California, USA. This charming first-generation Midget combines the classic looks of the early Mk1 with several desirable period upgrades that improve drivability.
The car is powered by a later 1098cc MG Midget/Sprite engine (engine number 10CG-DA-H 616) and is equipped with the stronger rib-case gearbox and front disc brakes. The car starts easily, runs well and drives. However, the clutch engages near the top of the pedal travel, suggesting a worn clutch. Service wise, the car appears to have had some recent attention, although it is unknown if this dates back 2 years or 10 years.
An MG Car Club Houston badge is mounted on the front grille, reflecting part of the car’s history in Texas.
This MG is offered as a driving restoration project. The floors and sills require replacement, and there is some additional welding required around the edge of the trunk floor and lower sections of the body. There is also minor damage to the left rear quarter panel. The paintwork is older and heavily weathered, making a repaint necessary after completion of the bodywork. The seats are from a later Midget and not original to the car.
A brand-new soft top is included with the sale. The hood frame is present, but missing the straight upright bars. The car is largely complete and retains its attractive early Mk1 appearance.
An excellent opportunity to acquire an early left-hand drive Mk1 Midget with desirable mechanical upgrades and plenty of restoration potential.
