1959 MG MGA 1500 roadster

This MGA was stored in a barn in New Hampshire since 1985, together with a green 1600 roadster that we also acquired. It’s a highly original survivor that requires a nut and bolt restoration.

The chassis frame shows typical rust damage, most of which can be repaired with aftermarket repair sections. For inspiration, check out this old blog post of an MGA chassis restoration we carried out.

The body is in pretty good shape for an MGA from the east coast, but still needs extensive metalwork: think new sills and repair work on all body panels. The good part is that this car is as transparrent as can be: with only one respray in its original colour and old paint flaking off, the bare metal body already shows through in much of the car’s exterior.

Mechanically, everyting on this car needs to be rebuilt or replaced. The engine is a 1600 block, locked up from many years of sitting. We already poured some oil on top of the pistons, to help the next owner with the first stage of an engine rebuild. Standard 4 speed gearbox. The commission number plate on the firewall is heavily oxidated and came loose. It will need to be replaced, but is still readable and clearly lines up with the broken off attachment points.

The interior is in typical ‘barn find’ condition: highly original, but in need of everything. The convertible top and side screens are included, the ignition key is missing. The odometre reading is 47.255 mls.

An honest restoration project for skilled metalworkers, at a realistic price point.
