1955 MG TF 1500

This MG TF was acquired from the insurance company, after suffering a salt water flood damage in Florida. It was body off restored in the 1990’s and needs to be rebuilt from the ground up again.

The car was briefly submerged in water of about a meter deep, As a result, the engine, gearbox, steering box, rear axle, electrical system and dashboard instruments have water damage and should be rebuilt. No water came into the fuel tank. Upon arrival, we drained the engine and filled it with diesel. It remains locked up and would need to be rebuilt.

The chassis shows heavy surface rust and should be media blasted and repainted. The body was properly painted in a modern 2K paint and suffered less visible damage, although it also requires a proper bare metal repaint.

In the 1990’s, this car was properly restored by marque specialist Geoff Wheatley, as can be seen on a restoration plaque in the engine bay.

The interior, wooden floor boards and trim items are all intact and useable, although some cleaning up and / or restoration work is to be expected. Front and rear bumper chrome shows some rust pitting and should be replated.

A worthwhile restoration project of a rare MG model, this TF 1500 deserves to be rebuilt.
